HAPPY NEW YEAR - When I first saw these two orange heads I could tell they would be destined to become friends, if only I would give them bodies to get around in.
Drawing their bodies in was my way of contributing to their friendship, as opposed to giving them bodies made of oranges.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS
HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO YOU ALL - May the peace we all wish for be with you all. Thank you to those who've been to see my exhibit at the American Visionary Arts Museum, in Baltimore, Md. And those who've not seen it still have until the end of September, 2017.
Here's my holiday entry: The Wonder Of Christmas.

DIVERSITY
During these days of slipping and skidding into unfamiliar political ground, I happened to find this diverse group of characters on a pizza with a variety of toppings. It was a Supreme style pizza with veggies and meats; a tasty and colorful concoction. I took some risks in cutting out my characters, as I wasn't really too sure where I was going and allowed my subconscious mind to guide me in finding this distinct and differing group of individuals.

THE GREAT ESCAPE
I found this guy trying to escape from this pepperoni and sausage pizza we'd gotten for dinner. So I proceeded to be his accomplice in this Great Escape because I couldn't just stand by and watch him struggling to free himself from this tasty, though messy and formidable prison that kept him from freedom. Then, while I turned to get a plate for him to jump to safety on and not fall to the floor, he was gone. But, miraculously, I happened to get this picture before losing sight of him. I can only hope he made it to safety.

BRISTOL STOMP
Over time I've found these characters moving in one direction or another. Tonight, as I placed them side by side examining their similarities, I saw that they appeared to have a desire to move. Each had a subtle hint of motion. As I placed one after the other, side by side, I saw the rhythm in their step. "Hey!" I thought, they're dancing. That's where they're going with those sly moves!

COWBOY AND CALF
This young cowboy looks like he's trying to convince this calf to go his way, rather than trying the more conventional roping, tugging and tying. The calf was found meandering on a Supreme style pizza recently, while the cowboy had been tugging at the air on a pepperoni pizza, until I joined the two, with a length of rope I fashioned from a box of frozen fish.

RED, WHITE AND STRAW
Shredded wheat splashed with milk and topped with strawberry sweetness, as the lady walks on, leaving us wondering where she's going and maybe where she's been and who would splash her red hair with milk and why... oh, but...is she real?

A SPIRITUAL TIME
I must have been thinking of religion one day as I began cutting out a picture of crackers from a box, not exactly sure of where I was going with it. The crackers reminded me of stone structures. The soup bowl of vegetables and noodles brought to mind a stained glass window and the whole thing began to come together in my mind. Pretty soon I placed each piece in place, creating this image I call simply "A Spiritual time"

OLD MAN RUNNING
This is "Old Man Running" No need to fear, he's in no danger. He could be Old Man Winter running out of season, to allow Spring to take over for a while and smooth the way for Summer. He ran off from a pizza we enjoyed one evening. It was delicious, with lots of peppers, chicken, loads of cheese and sauce. I don't remember if there was anything else on it. But it was good.

CAT ON A SHREDDED ROOF
If you click on "Older Posts" at the bottom of this page and go back about three pages to my Sunday, 7 April 2013 entry: "In A Cereal World" you can see what I first saw in the image from the box.
The other day, I happened on the same illustration I'd cut out of another box of the same cereal and realized that I needed to reveal (or rescue) this cat from the spilled milk.

The brown horse on the bottom is part of a mushroom and cheese pizza. Although I found the body, neck and head in one piece, he was without legs, which I found at other parts of the pie. Although I don't like adding pieces, but rather finding and cutting an entire image from one cut, I liked the horse with the missing legs so much, I searched the pie for the missing parts.
Finally, I attached the legs and made copies to accompany the original. I used to feel that seeking missing parts to create an image was in some way cheating. But, now I believe if the pieces are found and fit to make the image, what's the harm? It's not a perfect horse, but probably a more appealing presentation than one I might have created using another medium.
